Oh, Crap.

If you're headed over to Taiwan, you might as well check out this interesting restaurant chain with a rather "crappy" concept. I don't mean this literally of course, but figuratively. This restaurant takes "eating out" to  a completely different level. Imagine this--you're eating out at a restaurant where they have toilet bowls for the customers to sit on (instead of regular chairs), and food is served on containers that are made to resemble urinals or bathtubs. They serve poo-shaped ice cream on toilet bowl containers--this does not really seem to be very appetizing especially if you take a look at your dessert and you suddenly visualize the "real thing"--real human excrement floating on a real toilet bowl. Ugh.

Diners at a Modern Toilet restaurant in Taiwan

But surprisingly, this restaurant chain, called "Modern Toilet", appears to be very popular, attracting people who are drawn towards its interesting concept. Originally, they only sold ice cream placed on toilet containers. It became very popular, and this allowed its owners to launch the "Marton Restaurant" in May 2004, which made waves in Taiwan because of its "unique" concept. In 2006, they underwent expansion and renamed all their restaurants in Taiwan to the "Modern Toilet", and continues to promise its patrons more surprises and entertainment in the coming years.

Here are some photos which I have found online:

Bon Apetit. Blech.

Enjoy!
