Eighth Harry Potter Film Becomes the 3rd Highest Grossing of All Time

Harry Potter fans now have a reason to celebrate.

Fans of the incredibly popular Harry Potter franchise have a perfectly good reason to be happy--the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, is now the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, placing it behind two James Cameron films, namely, Avatar (2009) and Titanic (1997).

According to boxofficemojo.com, the film has now earned $1,148,400,000 worldwide, joining ten other films who have earned over $1,000,000,000. Avatar, meanwhile, is still way ahead of the rest, earning $2,782,300,000, while Titanic has earned $1,843,200,000. Other films in the top ten include The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), Toy Story 3 (2010), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and The Dark Knight (2008).

While many have ruled out the possibility of it overtaking the two other films ahead of it (especially since the hype has somehow died down in some places), many still applaud the producers for ending the Potter film series with a bang. Meanwhile, Potterheads have focused their attention more to Pottermore, an online, interactive version of the book series, which will be available to everyone by October this year. Others, however, have been granted early access to the site, by figuring out the answers to clues posted on the Pottermore website. The clues were posted over a 7-day period, and as of this post, those who have successfully answered the clues have started receiving confirmation e-mails from the Pottermore site, and it is estimated that by end September, everyone who has answered the clues would be able to access the site.
