MindBurst: Brains and Booze Quiz Night at The Mind Museum

I was invited by a high school friend to attend the first ever quiz night at The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City called MindBurst: Brains and Booze held last Friday, July 19, at The Mind Cafe. Prior to this event, I didn't really know much about the concept of "Quiz Nights"--I thought they were just for older  people who would get-together at a friend's house for a night.

As I researched about it, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Quiz Nights have quite a following, with quiz nights being held in different bars, restaurants, and clubs around Metro Manila, with each attracting a different type of crowd (for a list of Quiz Nights around Metro Manila, click this link).

The Mind Museum wanted to be in on this Quiz Night thing too (they are a museum, after all), so they decided to come up with their own, with their first one held last July 19. I think this is going to be a regular thing for them from now on, given the success of their first one.

The Mind Museum has its own Jollibee branch. I think there still room for improvement service-wise, though.

By the time the quiz night started, all tables were filled up with people, who were mostly in their late 20s-40s. The people in our team, consisting generally of fresh college graduates, were clearly the youngest "competitors". Oops. Oh well.

Tickets are at P250 each, inclusive of unlimited cocktails.

Answers are supposed to be written on these boards.
The quiz night had three main categories (Places, Technology, and Sex) with several subcategories (like imaginary places for the Places category), and the questions were either multiple choice, true or false, and identification. All the teams just had ten seconds to answer each question, and this proved to be a challenge at times especially for the questions that had multiple answers. The winning team for each subcategory would get free food, while the overall winner would win free passes to The Mind Museum, as well as P3,000 worth of bookstore gift certificates.

Since this particular quiz night was held at a science museum, most questions were science-related (yes, even for the Sex category--I'll be showing sample questions in a bit). They would also give us Did You Know? facts/bits of trivia after they would give the right answer to each question. I actually learned quite a lot that evening. Who says learning can't be fun?

We got the right answer for this one.

You had to write your answer quickly before time runs out!

Imagine having ten seconds to write all these answers! These answers were for a Game of Thrones-related question. Unfortunately, we didn't get this one right.

After they gave us the right answer to each question, they would give us bits of trivia related to the question. I learned quite a lot!

The right answer was supposed to be Chernobyl, Ukraine. Still though, our answer was considered since we had to argue that Ukraine was part of Russia, back when it was still called the USSR. Hehe.

Mango Sling

Mango and Orange Sling--drinks are unlimited.
More booze!

Our team failed miserably in the Technology category.

They also had food available.

This photo was taken during the break in-between rounds. During each round, a lot of the teams can actually get pretty loud out of excitement--especially when they get the answers right!

Posing for a photo with the team. The only other guy in the photo and the one in purple were my classmates in high school. The rest are the college friends of my friend in purple.

One of the questions in the Sex category. Don't worry, people, nothing too...wild here.

It was also a bit of a guessing game for us.

"Taoism" was the right answer to this one (we answered Hinduism).

LOL at the second paragraph.

The final scores. The winning team got 50 points, while our team walked away with 25. Oh well. At least we had fun.

One final shot with Team Limitless (that name was chosen to emphasize the fact that we were the youngest ones there. Haha).
Even if we didn't walk away with prizes (those bookstore gift certificates would have been great), I would say that I had a lot of fun during this event. Quiz Nights are certainly a great alternative way to have fun on a Friday night!
