For Metro Manila residents like me, driving/commuting to school or to work on a weekday morning can be such a drag. Hellish traffic, overcrowded MRT trains, and long queues at public transport terminals are just some of the things we have to deal with on a regular basis. It's just some of those things that we'd rather go through, but we have to anyway. Add to that the floods and heavy rains and we'd have a perfect recipe for an awful day. Thankfully, we have The Morning Rush to keep us company.
Since 1996, radio DJs Chico and Delamar of Monster Radio RX 93.1 have been keeping stressed-out Metro Manila residents company as they go about their usual morning routine. With their hilarious antics and good music playing for four hours from Mondays to Fridays, they'll surely be keeping us entertained enough to make us forget about all the traffic and just sit back and relax.
From humble beginnings, Chico and Delle have now become one of the most popular radio personalities in the Philippines, with a solid fanbase, high ratings, and numerous awards to back up this claim. With fellow-RX dj Gino as the new addition to The Morning Rush team, listeners can look forward to an even wilder, crazier morning program.
One of the most popular segments of their show is the daily TOP 10, where listeners can send in their responses to a given topic (usually suggested by the listeners themselves), such as the TOP 10 Short Statements that Give You a Headache or the TOP 10 Signs That You're a Poser. The topics may range from the wildest, naughty-themed anecdotes to the more serious topics about break-ups. Occasionally, the listeners who would send in entries that would get picked by Chico or Delle as the top entry for the hour would even win a prize. This part of the program is where the laughs would usually come in--especially when the selected topic is less serious in nature. Chico and Gino's attempts to get pull off a naughty joke and Delle's reactions to them would usually be enough to get the listeners in a good mood.
Recently, Summit Media has published a compilation of some of the best Top 10 topics, as well as some of the best responses sent in by the listeners. The Best of Chico & Delamar's The Morning Rush Top 10, which sells for P175, is a fast-selling book with copies of it easily flying off the shelves at a number of bookstores particularly in Metro Manila.
Just like in the actual radio program, the topics published here range from the most absurd (for example: The Top 10 Dumb Blonde Jokes) to the more serious ones (The Top 10 Examples of Poverty That Have Made You Cry). It's a hard-to-put-down type of book, as you'll be finding yourself either laughing or crying your heart out in every page. It's just one of those simple, light-read books that you'd want to engage yourself in for hours, especially if you've got nothing else to do and just want to kill time. Even non-listeners will find themselves enjoying the book, as you do not really have to listen to the radio program in order to laugh or cry along with the entries. Be warned, though--some of the entries posted may not be age-appropriate for children.
