Broadway musical enthusiasts from the Philippines will no longer have to travel abroad to see their favorite shows.
Beginning January 24, Mamma Mia!, a musical backed by the songs of Swedish pop group ABBA, will be staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater), for a limited period only.
Written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the story takes place in Greece where a young Sophie Sheridan goes on a quest to know the identity of her long-lost father, on the eve of her wedding. She brings three men from her mother's past to Greece, where they were just 20 years ago. The cast includes Charlotte Wakefield as Sophie Sheridan, and Sra Poyzer as Donna Sheridan, Sophie's mother. Also included are Rosie Heath as Ali and Tasha Taylor Thompson as Lisa, Sophie's friends who help her find her father.
The musical features 22 of ABBA's well-loved hits, including "Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Money, Money, Money", "The WInner Takes It All", "SOS", "Thank You For The Music" and many more.
Shows are from Tuesdays to Sundays at 8 PM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and at 3 PM (Saturday and Sunday). Tickets may now be purchased through TicketWorld. For inquiries, please call TicketWorld at 891-9999 or you may visit their website at www.ticketworld.com.ph.
