Fresh from all the eating that I've been doing over the holidays, I vowed to be more mindful of what I eat. I told myself that I would only indulge myself on weekends, and just eat three normal-sized meals on weekdays. However, when the opportunity to try out a new restaurant on a Monday night came, I just couldn't say no!
I met up with a friend after work at Greenbelt in Makati, just a few blocks away from my workplace along Ayala Avenue. At first, we couldn't really decide where to eat (there are just so many places to choose from!), we decided to go for Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., located at Greenbelt 3.
Bubba Gump opened its first (and so far still its only) branch in the Philippines at Greenbelt 3 back in 2003. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is heavily inspired by the film Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks; the name of the restaurant itself was actually taken from a fictional company started by Forrest Gump (the main character) and his friend Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue. As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in shrimp and other seafood, though they serve other kinds of dishes as well.
My friend and I were seated at a table near the entrance, and the whole time I had my back turned away from the rest of the restaurant (I was facing the door). Imagine my surprise when I turned back to take the photo above and saw the rest of the place! The restaurant was really huge and spacious. There weren't that many people eating there too, making the place seem even more spacious. I guess this place gets more customers on weekends.
My friend, who has already dined here in the past, told me that they had huge serving sizes, so we decided to order two kinds of dishes and just split them between us. They had a wide selection of dishes, but we eventually decided on ordering their Chicken Cordon Bleu and their Seafood Jambalaya.
First up: Chicken Cordon Bleu. "A breaded Chicken Breast stuffed with Ham and Swiss Cheese, deep-fried and served in our warm Lobster Butter Sauce, with Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus Spears." The mashed potatoes were so-so, but the chicken was really good! I've never had chicken cordon bleu like theirs before. The meat wasn't too tough and the flavors of the ingredients and the sauce complemented each other quite well.
The other dish: Seafood Jambalaya. "Cajun-style Jambalaya Rice cooked with Shrimps, Squids, Clams, Mussels, and spicy Andouille Sausage." You shouldn't dare miss out on this one! This was the dish that ruined my plans to eat healthier--I couldn't stop myself from getting more of it until I couldn't just take another bite.
The food here is good, although quite expensive. I think our wallets would end up committing suicide if my friend and I decided to order more dishes. But who cares, really? It was worth it!
